DISTAS 2020

This year’s Rotary District Assembly is a   momentous event because it would be a first in the District 3790 to be done via Zoom. The task is given to Rotary Club of Baguio Summer Capital which President Carlito Villanueva gladly accepted. To make this a successful staging, he asked his fellow club members to help out. In this undertaking, Past President Jose Antonio Baltazar was appointed as  Chairman of the event and to support him is Director Delfin Tokiyas, an IT specialist. With them on the helm and the support of other members, PDG Rolando Villanueva and PP Josef Angelo Martires did the hosting   together with the District Training Team. Also a first is the very turn out of attendees          numbering to about one thousand five     hundred. It was also shown live on Facebook and Youtube which made it more successful since it was viewed by many other Rotarians from other Districts as well as in other       countries.

DISTAS is an event that formally introduces incoming Presidents and officers for each Rotary Year. As for this year’s theme: “Rotary Opens Opportunities”.

Rotary 2020 Kick-off Project

July 1, is the official start of a Rotary Year that is jump started with a simultaneous  project world wide. For this year, Rotary supports the environment that is aimed to elevate shortage of food through backyard gardening and seed donations to     farmers and individuals that were greatly affected by the  COVID19   pandemic.

Rotarians and their  families were asked to plant seeds and grow it. When it is ready to be replanted, these   seedlings can be donated as well to those who need it.

Medical Donation for Baguio General Hospital

As we continue to fight this  ongoing pandemic, we concentrate on the safety and health of our Frontliners and the person they are handling each day to make sure that they are well taken cared of. Together with CWS party list, with the leadership of Congressman Romelo S. Momo Sr. through Past President Josef Angelo Martires and our club, RC Baguio Summer Capital donated last July 1, 2020 medical supplies and personal protective equipment to Baguio General Hospital, ENT and Pediatric Department for their use in daily hospital activity. May this be of help for them and to their love ones.

Facemask Donation to Farmers

In time of health risks,       Transforming President Carllito    Villanueva together with his daughter, Dra. Karla         Villanueva visited a farm at Happy Hollow to donate facemasks for their protection and for their families. Dra Karla also gave other suggestions on how to protect themselves from this pandemic. Dr. Karla taught them how to use the facemask properly.   She  also informed mothers on the hospital procedures  on   medical   check-ups.

SEED Donation

A follow up July 1 kick off activity to start the    Rotary year, seeds were donated to Happy Hollow farmers for their additional use and to increase their vegetable production with variations. They were very glad for the donations and promised to inform us on the  growth of the vegetables and will    inform the club when it would be harvested.    President Tolitz informed them that whatever will be harvested is theirs and we will help during the     harvest. The club promised to donate new batch of seeds that is suitable during a particular season.

They asked if we could include seeds like lemon and some flowering seeds which is easier to    manage in their particular type of soil.

PPE and Food Pack Donations

For their unselfish dedication that exemplifies SERVICE ABOVE SELF, during this pandemic, the Rotary Club of  Baguio Summer Capital headed by President Tolitz Villanueva, Rotaract Club of SLU-SAMCIS, PDG Rolando Villanueva, his children and his ever supportive wife, Mency Villanueva, celebrated her  birthday by donating food packs to Frontliners as a simple gesture of saying “Thank you” for all their hard work and sacrifices for the     community. PPEs where also donated for their safety. This is much appreciated as there are limited stocks available in the market. We salute all the Frontliners and again thank you.

Donations for our frontliners through RC Angeles Kuliat by PP Susan Simpao, District 2760 Aichi Nagoya, Japan and RC Baguio Summer Capital    donated personal protective equipment to the personnel of   Baguio General Hospital and  Medical Center for their use during hospital   duties.

Turn-over Ceremonies 2020

It is customary for any organization when new officials are to take charge that the turn-over of leadership is done to formally acknowledge the ascension of command or stewardship. For this year, Outgoing Champion President Cecilio Cid was very happy to turn-over the reign to Transforming President Carlito Villanueva for this Rotary Year 2020-2021 with a theme of “Rotary Opens Opportunities”. The affair was done at the Centennial Building of the University of Baguio which has been the home of the Rotary Club of Baguio Summer Capital for many years now. The activity was well attended by the members who witnessed the ceremonial handover. Immediate Past President Chinky, as he is fondly called by his brothers, wished President Tolitz a smooth and successful year of leading the Club and exemplified Service Above Self.
